UAP Task Force (UAPTF)

The Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force was established by the U.S. Department of Defense on August 14, 2020, under the authority of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security. Its stated mission was to detect, analyze, and catalog UAPs that could potentially threaten U.S. national security or flight safety.

The task force was a successor to the Navy-led UAP working group that emerged from reporting on the AATIP program. It was required to report classified findings to Congress under the Intelligence Authorization Act of 2021.

David Grusch served as the NGA/NRO representative to the UAPTF from 2019 to 2021, during which time he says he became aware of illegal crash retrieval and reverse-engineering programs operating outside congressional oversight.

The UAPTF was superseded by the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office) in July 2022.
