William Stephenson
Sir William Stephenson ("Intrepid") ran British Security Coordination, Britain's WWII intelligence and covert-action apparatus in the Western Hemisphere, and is frequently cited as a model for Ian Fleming's James Bond. After the war he set up the British-American-Canadian Corporation, which was folded into the World Commerce Corporation in 1947; he served as a WCC director and chaired its Jamaican spin-off, the Caribbean Cement Company Limited [S1]. Historian Vanessa Ogle describes WCC — "formed" by Stephenson with Stettinius — as "a CIA front, of sorts" [S2].
