The Aviary

The Aviary is a roster of bird codenames that 1990s ufology attached to alleged intelligence-community insiders — BLUE JAY for Dr. Kit Green, PELICAN for Ronald Pandolfi, PENGUIN for Col John Alexander, among others [S1]. It is the vehicle through which most claims about a CIA "The Weird Desk" entered circulation.

Its provenance is traceable. Armen Victorian published the roster in the UK's UFO Magazine (Vol. 11 No. 3, July/August 1992) and named it again in Lobster 25 in June 1993, where the retrieved text identifies "Dr Christopher Green (BLUEJAY) from the CIA" [S2]. Later web versions, notably Richard Boylan's 1995-96 revision, expand the entries and introduce the "Weird Desk" phrasing [S3].

The Aviary should be treated as a claim to be traced, not a source to be cited. Its entries are uncited, they were revised over time, and mirrored pages purporting to document its members have included excerpts from Jacques Vallee's novel Fastwalker presented alongside factual material [S4].
