The Weird Desk
The "Weird Desk" is the popular name for an alleged CIA function: an officer quietly holding the Agency's UFO and anomalous-phenomena files, supposedly passed from Dr. Kit Green to Ronald Pandolfi. It is one of the most repeated claims in contemporary UAP discourse and one of the least documented.
No government record uses the term. Searches of the CIA Reading Room, DTIC and agency FOIA rooms surfaced no document using "Weird Desk" or otherwise naming a designated anomalies custodian. The one directly on-point CIA record, Kenneth Kress's 1977 Parapsychology in Intelligence, names only "an OSI officer" [S1].
The phrase can, however, be dated. The The Aviary roster naming Green as BLUE JAY reaches print through Armen Victorian in 1992-93 — and the retrieved 1993 version never uses the word "weird" [S2]. The literal phrase first appears in Richard Boylan's web-published roster of 1995-96 [S3]. What survives underneath is smaller and older: Jacques Vallee's February 1974 note that a small part of Green's duties at the CIA Office of Scientific Intelligence involved watching paranormal reports [S4].
