CIA Office of Scientific Intelligence

The Office of Scientific Intelligence (OSI) is the CIA component that sits underneath the "Weird Desk" legend. Jacques Vallee's February 1974 journal entry places Dr. Kit Green at OSI and notes that "a small part of his duties involved keeping an eye on reports of paranormal claims" [S1] — the earliest documented statement of the role.

OSI also appears in the CIA's own declassified account of the remote-viewing programme: Kenneth Kress's 1977 Studies in Intelligence article describes CIA personnel from OSI meeting Russell Targ in July 1972, and an unnamed "OSI officer" continuing informal work with SRI in 1973 [S2]. Notably, that document never names Green — the identification comes from later secondary sources, not from the Agency record.
