SAF/AAZ (Air Force SAP Central Office)

SAF/AAZ is the Air Force Special Access Program Central Office (AF SAPCO) — the component-level authority that, in the Air Force's own words, is "the Central Office for all Air Force SAPs" and "has knowledge of, and security oversight over, all SAPs" [S1]. Under AFI 90-201, SAF/AAZ provides at least one team member for every Headquarters Air Force Special Access Program inspection, working alongside AFOSI Office of Special Projects (PJ), which supplies the Security Inspection Lead [S2].

SAF/AAZ is directly relevant to UAP research for two reasons. First, it is the office that actually holds Air Force SAP authority — a fact that constrains claims placing other organizations, such as the AFLCMC Information Protection Directorate, in the SAP chain of command. Second, it is the office that, during the Air Force's 1994–95 Roswell inquiry, "categorically stated that no such Special Access Program(s) exists that pertain to extraterrestrial spacecraft/aliens" [S1] — a denial issued by the one office positioned to know, and one that UAP researchers have long contested.
