Air Technical Intelligence Center
The Air Technical Intelligence Center (ATIC) was the Air Force office chartered to exploit foreign aircraft and equipment. Its line began with Air Materiel Command's T-2 Intelligence at Wright Field in July 1945, became the AMC Intelligence Department in October 1947, and was established as ATIC on 21 May 1951 under the USAF Director of Intelligence [S1]. This is the chain that ran Project Sign and Project Blue Book. Its charter is the usual test for lore that places crash-retrieval work in other Wright-Patterson offices, such as the "special studies" unit credited to Eric H. Wang.
