Disappearance of Neil McCasland (2026)
On February 27, 2026, retired USAF Major General William Neil McCasland — former AFRL Commander and post-retirement Director of Technology at BlueHalo subsidiary Applied Technology Associates — disappeared from his home in Albuquerque, NM within a ~60-minute window while his wife was at a doctor's appointment. A repairman last interacted with him at ~10:00 a.m.; his wife left at ~11:10 a.m. and returned at 12:04 p.m. to find him gone.
Left behind: phone, prescription glasses, wearable devices. Took with him: wallet, .38-caliber revolver, leather holster, red backpack, hiking boots (later found at his Pagosa Springs second home ~200 miles away), light green button-up outdoor shirt.
McCasland had reported an unspecified "medical issue" and "mental fog" in the period prior to disappearance. FBI Albuquerque Field Office confirmed involvement; Kirtland AFB coordinating. Silver Alert issued March 1, 2026. Over 600 homeowners canvassed; extensive searches of Sandia foothills including FLIR helicopter flights. As of mid-March 2026, survival probability "very low" if he entered the mountains. Status: missing.
Timing: Disappeared six days after President Trump announced on Truth Social he was directing the Pentagon and federal agencies to release UAP/UFO records (February 21, 2026).
