Townsend Brown Foundation
The Townsend Brown Foundation was a vehicle Thomas Townsend Brown used for his research for decades. The family timeline records a 1938 foundation and a Los Angeles reconstitution in 1951–53 with Bradford Shank and Mason Rose [S1]. In the 1970s it appears as "The Townsend Brown Foundation, Ltd., Nassau, Bahamas." A letter on that letterhead, dated 14 February 1973 and signed by Brown, was printed in 1977 by Rolf Schaffranke, writing as "Rho Sigma" [S2]. A correspondent from the mid-1970s recalls replies postmarked from the same foundation while Brown lived on Catalina Island [S3]. No incorporation record has been found. It is the one link between Brown and Nassau that does not trace back to Paul Schatzkin or the family, which is why it bears on the Nassau Group story.
