Scientific Intelligence Committee (SIC)
The Scientific Intelligence Committee (SIC) was an interagency committee formed in 1949 by directive of Director of Central Intelligence Roscoe Hillenkoetter and approved by the Intelligence Advisory Committee.
A CIA representative chaired it. The Atomic Energy Commission, the State Department, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force each had a representative, and the military services at first opposed the CIA's role in scientific intelligence.
The CIA's Office of Scientific Intelligence was set up the same year. The Directorate of Science and Technology note shows how the committee and the office fit into the agency's science-and-technology line.
