National Prayer Breakfast
The National Prayer Breakfast is an annual Washington, DC gathering of political and business leaders, held every year since 1953 (originally the "Presidential Prayer Breakfast"). For seven decades it was organized by The Fellowship (The Family), which used the event's ostensibly congressional framing to keep its own role out of view [S1]. Every sitting U.S. president since Dwight D. Eisenhower has attended; James A. Baker III delivered the 1990 keynote [S2]. In 2023, after transparency controversies, the breakfast formally split from the Fellowship Foundation, with Congress taking over its coordination through a new National Prayer Breakfast Foundation [S1].
