Disappearance of Monica Jacinto Reza (2025)
On June 22, 2025, Monica Jacinto Reza — co-inventor of Mondaloy and Director of the Materials Processing Group at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory — disappeared on the Upper West Ridge Trail, Mount Waterman, Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles County, CA.
She was an experienced hiker hiking with two companions. She was last seen at approximately 9:10 a.m. waving to a companion from ~30 feet behind on the ridgeline. A multi-agency search (helicopters with FLIR thermal, drones, canines, SAR teams) ran through June 30, 2025; a supplemental search was conducted August 8, 2025. No body, no scent termination point, and no physical evidence was ever recovered. The case was transferred to LA County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau – Missing Persons Unit. Status: missing.
Anomaly: A Find A Grave memorial was created for her four days after disappearance — three days before the official search was suspended — by a contributor whose profile is no longer publicly accessible.
