Stanton Friedman

Stanton Friedman, a nuclear physicist by training, was for decades the leading defender of the MJ-12 documents and author of Top Secret/MAJIC.

His most concrete win is documented and worth recording precisely, because it cuts against the assumption that every skeptical technical claim held up. Philip J. Klass wagered that genuine 1950s White House documents used only Elite type, not the Pica of the Cutler-Twining Memo; Friedman produced exemplars and Klass paid out $1,000 — with the caveat that the terms specified letters and memoranda while Friedman's initial batch was headings and dates [S1].

One episode cuts the other way. Friedman himself engaged forensic document examiner Peter Tytell, who concluded the documents were faked. Friedman's published response addresses a different, CIA-linked examiner and does not engage Tytell's finding [S2].
