Stubblebine Forced Early Retirement (1984)
Maj. Gen. Albert "Bert" Stubblebine was forced into early retirement in 1984 after his unconventional pursuits — sponsoring psychic research, allowing uncleared civilian psychics into SCIFs, and requiring battalion commanders to practice spoon-bending — alienated senior Army leadership. Army Chief of Staff Gen. John Adams Wickham Jr. associated the spoon-bending exercises with Satanism, accelerating the ouster.
Before departing INSCOM, Stubblebine's final act was to secure a safe haven for his protégé Col. John Alexander, placing him under Lt. Gen. Robert Moore at the Army Materiel Command so he could continue paranormal and UAP research outside INSCOM's orbit.
Lt. Gen. William Odom replaced Stubblebine and was highly hostile to the remote viewing program, effectively ending INSCOM's involvement.
